Folks, I like technology, good technology that is. Not the stuff that makes life harder, or, is actively trying to kill you:
I just don’t understand why designers want to take a design that’s proven, works well, is simple enough for a five-year-old to use and doesn’t really need to be changed.
Like this:
Simple, easy to use and effective.
So why change it to this?
Now, call me spoiled, but being able to see while puttering down the highway at night while doing 100kph is something I’ve kind of grown used to.
So, when the windscreen misted up, I glanced down several times, eventually found the demister button, pressed it, and was not completely surprised to find it made things worse.
As thick fog crept across the windscreen I managed to, eventually, pull over by driving with the window down (ah, the rain in my face! So invigorating…)
More experimenting lead to digging out the car manual, because, as the ol’ saying goes:
When all else fails, read the instructions.
Anyway, after following a bewildering number of steps (as opposed to simply turning a knob to the ‘Demist’ position) I was delighted to find cool air was now being diverted to the windscreen.
And, once I’d changed it, that’s where it stayed until I returned the car to its’ owner and strolled away laughing…
If you take another look you’ll see why I didn’t even bother trying to change the channels on the radio.
Well done people.
My only request is, keep these bozos away from anything we really, really need to work simply and effectively, e.g.: traffic lights, brakes, steering wheels, switches for wall lights, actually, keep them away from everything.
Put thick mittens over their hands…
Until Next Week!
Cheers,
Greg
