Where's Doll? Council-ling! Reel-ationships! Happy Snaps!
Where’s Doll?
Home! Resting! Preparing!
Helping put up more signs:
This weekend, Doll rolled up her sleeves, caught up on a few chores, voted, put her feet up, enjoyed a few drinks, napped and spent some quality time with me and the boys.
We were supposed to be on Heron Island right now doing our two night set in paradise. But the new owner made some interesting changes to the muso contracts which basically boiled down to: His Resort, His Rules.
Fine with me!
So, this weekend we unpacked our bongos and grass skirts and put the finishing touches on the set list for the next gig at the Harbour Festival in a couple of weeks time.
Council-ling
Well, after a short, but intense, campaign Jessica Bray (a relation…) is still waiting to see if she will be elected to council by the skin of her teeth.
Maybe today, maybe tomorrow.
Overall, it was a fairly positive campaign, but I’m not going to miss putting her signs back up, trying to find her signs, replacing her signs, looking for the new signs, wondering why people would take or destroy her signs?
Still, it was fascinating to see democracy manifest.
Jess and the other contenders gave their all during the campaign and fronted up to several town hall meetings to put their case forward for election.
These were always going to be tough gigs.
At every meeting someone would ask, ‘Why should I vote for you?’, or ‘Who are you? We’ve never seen you here before?!’ Which was a bit harsh for many of the candidates who had spent a lot of their spare time over the past year or more, pottering around the district meeting and greeting locals in each area.
At one of meetings, I was asked by a mate why I hadn’t run and summed up my long response with this statement, “I reckon I could do more good for my community outside of council chambers.”
Honestly, this region doesn’t need another old, white man in council. Although it could probably do with more folk music playing, beach strolling, long haired hippies though?
Maybe one day…
Reel-ationships
I have some extremely funny mates who like to send me hilarious, interesting or, occasionally, some eye popping texts, links or reels.
For those of you still living in caves, reels are small videos (usually 10 to 20 seconds) people can easily make, using personalised music or effects.
They’re a staple on Tik Tok, Instagram and Facebook and are about as addictive as poker machine that puffs cocaine into your face when you push the button.
And they quickly went from being a novelty to becoming something like, well, like arseholes, i.e.: everyone’s got one but they probably shouldn’t show it to anyone else.
Anyway, as I was scrolling past another batch of reels sent to me by friends who should probably be working, sleeping, watching the road or trying to survive their operations, it occurred to me how many of them I have seen in person lately (quick answer, ‘None’).
So we have the sort of friendships my daughter calls, ‘reel-ationships’.
It’s a way of saying, ‘Hey, thinking of you, have a chuckle at this buxom, young, woman in a skimpy bikini falling off a boat!’
Or this one… and if you laugh, you’re a bad person and we should be friends:
Yeah, we’re clearly not doing deep n’ meaningful in this murky, little, puddle of social media, but it’s nice to know when someone sees a humorous reel of a pig they think of me… I think.
The %$#*# Novel
I know I promised to add a chapter to this site, but there have been complications.
On the plus side, I have been writing and ACTUALLY ENJOYING the process, as compared to writing then editing it into oblivion.
Maybe next week…
Happy Snaps
Ah Queensland, perfect one day:
Pouring the next:
The grandkids watching our possessed TV:
Various ‘classy’ signs spotted around the joint:
Underlines indicate: WE ARE NOT JOKING! DON’T DO IT!
I’m outraged! What have they got against Centenarians?!
These cats either have deformed legs, or really saggy tits:
Spotted a five legged horse:
And after a few delays, the kids finally got out of Dodge for their long-awaited Oz Road Trip!
Ok, you’ve suffered enough.
Thanks for dropping by, let’s do it all again next week!
